Human Trafficking and Slavery

Human Trafficking and Slavery

  • The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) has worked closely with the Thai government to combat human trafficking and to promote the rights of the trafficking victims.
  • One of the key initiatives undertaken by the UNODC in Thailand is provisioning legal assistance and support services to the victims. This includes helping victims to access medical care, counselling, and safe housing, as well as providing legal representation in criminal proceedings against traffickers.
  • The UNODC also took initiatives to arrange for training and capacity-building programs for law enforcement officials and prosecutors in Thailand, so they can better identify and investigate cases of human trafficking and slavery, and that prosecutors are better equipped to successfully prosecute traffickers.
